During that famous speech known as the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus made a series of dramatic statements. Jesus third blessing pronouncement was, “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth (Mt 5:5). By definition meekness is strength under control. The meek or humble don’t appear to rule this world, but Jesus is highlighting the contrasting structure of this world from the world to come. Meekness involves intentionally subjugating power, placing your strength under the oversight of another. Being a Christ follower necessitates surrendering our autonomy, our will, the totality of our lives to His control. It’s true that all who follow Him will become like Him, meek with genuine strength under control!
“The meek shall inherit the land & delight in abundant peace…” Ps 37:11
